about

A message from Markus:

'Eisprung' is a retrospective compilation of tracks from the first 10 years (1996 - 2006) of duo work by Bernhard Wöstheinrich and Markus Reuter. With this I'm focusing on "studio" recordings exclusively, that means these pieces were still created live, but without an audience.

It was hard for me to put this together. I love all of this music as much as I "hate" it. I combined pieces of quite varied harmonic and rhythmic textures.

This compilation does not include any of the work we did with Tim Bowness (between 2002 and 2005) and none of the music we started to play and record in a trio format with Tobias Reber. However, Tobias is present as a contributor on the piece Field 1.

SENSE (from "Blast")
A suspenseful "minimal" piece, which has mostly been overlooked, I find, but it's certainly one of my favorites because of its unique atmosphere.

HARVEST GIRLS (from "Sun Lounge Debris")
This one is a real exception in the centrozoon canon as it is harmonically simple and features one of my first (released) long melodic solos.

THE CULT OF: BIBBIBOO (from the album of the same title)
This longform improvisation is still way over the top for me, and that's why it's included here.

FIELD 1 (from "Lovefield")
Played entirely by hand, without loopers or sequencers. Tobias made treatments of our performances that were mixed in with the originals.

FEAR (from "Angel Liquor")
Another rather intense piece that I mostly find annoying. Its unsettling mood is super unique, though, and that's why I chose this track.

POWER (from the "Blast" definitive edition re-release)
The beats on this track were a part of the early centrozoon sound that was not represented on our debut album Blast. Since its release this piece has become a fan favorite.

about

centrozoon Berlin, Germany

Centrozoon is not just questioning the process of making music, but the very borders of music itself.
Creating sound, to centrozoon, is an exploration of possibilities and extremes, a constant conscious confusion of contexts and evaluating the validity of what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’.

centrozoon currently consists of Markus Reuter, Bernhard Wöstheinrich and Tobias Reber.
